Why I like PR Stars...by Hannah

Since I sold 500+ boxes of cookies, I get to do a program called PR Stars. I've been in the program for 3 years. I've been on t.v. twice because of the program. I have gone to a radio station, and I've even been in a magazine. The program has been a lot of fun. I can't wait to see what I'll get to do next. You can't believe how much fun it has been. My favorite part is taking tons of photos...lots and lots of photos! just today I went to the Girl Scout Troop House and we made a craft.

Shine on, girls!

Last year's PR Stars are this year's recruitment stars! They are on tens of thousands of fliers throughout eastern Oklahoma and on the special Web site: www.JoinGS.org
This is one example of how the photos we take at PR Stars sessions can be used within the council. You never know where your smiling face might appear!

PR Stars Photo Session

Be ready for some cute pics from some great girls! We had 33 girls smiling, posing, laughing and singing all day ... and I think they all went home still smiling!

These are just sneak peeks from my camera phone (NOT good quality) ... and didn't post directly from my phone during our shoot like I was expecting! I think it's time for Ingrid to get a new phone!

Girl Scouts and Tulsa Area United Way

What a privilege! Girl Scouts were chosen to be the featured organization as Tulsa Area United Way unveiled their new campaign goal at their press conference today. A group of PR Stars came down for the event and had an AWESOME time. We talked about press conferences (it was a first for each of them), practiced the smiles and the signs ... and at the big moment in front of all the cameras turned the signs around to show the goal: $23,898,673! WOOHOO! Here we go, United Way!

Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma is a United Way Agency serving girls in 30 counties throughout eastern Oklahoma. Thank you for supporting the United Way!

Visit to Marvel Cave

My name is Chrissy. I attended the Girl Scout Weekend at Silver Dollar City last spring. I had a great time with my troop. We rode lots of rides and took a tour of the famous Marvel Cave. The cave was very interesting. It had a few real live bats hanging from the ceiling. It had a room that was shaped like a foot. We walked down several flights of stairs to the bottom. They turned out the lights for a brief moment to let us see what it is like in total darkness. We rode a train back up and out of the cave. It was a blast.

Kamryn and Josephine joined Cookie Diva Kathy and the Channel 2 Crew for a little Sunday morning Crunch-Off action! Teamed with Meteorologist George and Anchor Deana, Kamryn and Josephine kicked off the first day of direct sales with a little friendly competition.

It was a close race, but our congratulations to Deana and Kamryn for taking home the victory! And don't forget, now is the time to take home a box of your favorite Girl Scout cookies! Now through March 31 you can purchase boxes directly from a troop at many sites across eastern Oklahoma. Visit www.GirlScoutsEastOk.org to find a booth sale near you!

Snow Day at KBEZ

We braved the weather (really, it was fine outside of neighborhoods) to do a radio show with Steve and Carly at KBEZ. PR Stars Amanda (right) and Kamryn (middle) were joined by my daughter as they talked about their cookies on the air. Miss the broadcast? Just click here to hear it!

Come One, Crunch All!

Hannah and Cookie Diva Kathy visited the Fox Daybreak News for a quick interview and some serious competition! Hannah bravely took on Michael and John from Fox in a live Cookie Crunch-Off! It was a tight race, but Michael was able to pull out the win. I know I'm looking forward to watching a re-match next year...

Briana & Becky Bake Brownies

Today's extra-special feature aired on Channel 6 with a Girl Scout Cookie appearance in the cooking segment. Briana (one of our PR Stars) and Becky (Communications Specialist for Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma) made delightful Thin Mint brownies! I do believe we were the most popular guests ... especially since we gave our brownies to the crew! It was fun to watch Briana express her excitement over recognizing news anchors and learning how a broadcast is pulled together.

Ingredients:
½ box of crushed Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies
1 box of brownie mix
2 eggs (3 eggs for cake-like brownies)
¼ cup of water
½ cup of vegetable oil

Directions: Crush Thin Mints into medium size chunks. Mix all ingredients into mixing bowl. Do not use electric mixer - batter will be stiff. Spread batter evenly in greased baking pan (13 x 9 x 2 inch). Bake in center of oven at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Allow to cool before cutting.

Ice Cream and TV

Channel 8 had the joy of twin Brownies today! Sienna (on the right) is a PR Star and together with her twin sister, Sierra, showed the world how to make Girl Scout Cookie ice cream sandwiches! They got the giggles, which was adorable. But even better than that, Sienna not only got to experience her first television appearance ... she had an on-air taste of her dream to become a chef!

Directions: Allow ice cream to soften in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Put a small scoop of ice cream between two cookies, wrap in foil and freeze for two hours or until ice cream is firm. We used Sugar Free Chocolate Chips and carb-free ice cream for a low sugar alternative.

PR Stars Talk with Channel 2

Josephine and Rachael are interviewed by KJRH Channel 2 reporter, Beth Burnett. Rachael (in the tan vest) is a veteran Girl Scout and cookie seller and told about all the things she has been able and places their troop has traveled because of selling cookies. Josephine is a good bit younger, so I was glad she got to hear about all the things Rachael has been able to do.

When asked by Beth why she joined PR Stars, Josehpine (in the green vest), she said it was to learn how to talk in front of people better and not be nervous. Did she accomplish this? Yes, was the confident answer. But what I loved most were her words of wisdom when Beth asked if she had any advice ... "Hang loose. And relax." Beth smiled and said she was going to use that, too.

Later in the interview, Josophine followed her two steps to confidence with another two-step power house. Beth asked what the secret was to selling so many cookies. Josephine's answer? "Just smile ... and ask."

My Girl Scout Field Trip

On Fall Break, our Girl Scout troop took a field trip. First we went to Walmart to finish our photo badge. We learned about cameras and how to develop film and make copies. Then we went to the small animal hospital. We took a tour of all the rooms, and got to scrub-in and see an x-ray! We saw a lot of cute dogs and a few kittens. After visiting the animal hospital, we went to eat our sack lunches. Then we went to Scrap Booking Galore. We learned how to scrap book clothes pins and made two scrap booking pages. This was a lot of fun and I think I might have a new hobby. Last but not least, we went to Pet-Co, where we took a tour and saw different kinds of animals. We learned about there habitats and what food they like to eat. I LOVE Girl Scouting!

I went horseback riding!

A couple weeks ago our Girl Scout troop went horseback riding. We went on a long trail at Camp Tallchief Girl Scout camp. We all got a horse assigned to us and off we went. Our instructors taught us the ropes. We all had a blast! Just thought you would like to know this little tale, so stay in Girl Scouts and in 4th grade you to can ride too!
